JSMFF gala

Plans are well underway for A CAPITAL EVENING III, our 3rd Annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction at the storied Capital Hilton in Washington, DC. Many thanks to this years Gala chairs who have taken on the Herculean task of producing the evening — Jodi Moraru (Founder and President of EVOKE, evokedc.com), David Piscola (General Manager of the Capital Hilton, CapitalHilton.com) and Patrick Gex (Vice President of ABB, Abb.com)

A CAPITAL EVENING III will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016. We’ll gather first for cocktails (open premium bar), hors d’oeuvres and the Silent Auction from 6:00 to 7:30PM. And then we’ll retreat to the Presidential Ballroom for a sumptuous dinner with accompanying wine and entertainment by Radio King Orchestra’s Combo. And top the evening off with a some dancing perhaps. And, you’ll enjoy the company of some fabulous folks who share your love for the poor.

We have made several great additions this year, including pre-payment for parking on arrival in order to expedite your departure and the opportunity to participate in VIP check-out for the auction — details to follow!

There will be many exciting gifts on which to bid, just in time for the holiday season — trips, gifts, tickets to sporting events, artwork and much more! And it all enables us to fund our program for the coming year! Please join us!

Speaking of programs, I am delighted to report that our 3rd Annual Summer in the City campaign is going well. To date, we have collected more than 60,000 cans of food and we still have a month and seven more churches to go!

Twenty-three local churches have participated — and we thank them — including Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, St. Thomas Apostle, Annunciation, and Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in the District; St. Peter’s Olney; St. Mary’s Shrine, Barnesville; St. Elizabeth, St. Mary’s, St. Raphael’s and St. Patrick’s, in Rockville; St. Michael Archangel, Our Lady of Grace, St. Bernadette. and St. Mark’s Episcopal, in Silver Spring; Resurrection, Burtonsville; St. Jerome, Hyattsville; St. John Neumann, Gaithersburg; Holy Cross, Garrett Park; St. Francis Assisi, Derwood; St. Nicholas, Laurel; St. Paul, Damascus; and Holy Redeemer, Kensington.

In addition, the parochial schools at Blessed Sacrament and St. Peter’s conducted a drive during the last week of school and the phenomenal Summer Service Work Camps at Resurrection in Burtonsville, three classes in all under the direction of the amazing Helene Stever, collected 13,000 cans!

Of course, the most important thing is that we continue to make a difference in the lives of more than 750 working families in the District of Columbia. We just don’t make it through life alone, and I can assure you these folks we help each month are grateful that you are in their lives.

God love you!
