As I write to you this fall evening, your Foundation has now delivered more than 156,000 cans of food and almost five tons of fresh produce, milk and eggs, meat and poultry! And helped better the lives of hundreds of families in the District of Columbia! Thank you.

I hope you will take the time to read another blog post today about the results of our Summer in the City — hundreds of volunteers and seventeen local churches helped us deliver 56,531 cans and purchase and deliver 1,900 pounds of fresh food since I last wrote to you. We are proud of this accomplishment because it kept all of our pantries completely stocked during the difficult summer months when concern for the poor often takes a vacation.

We are busy scheduling our fall and winter activities, which includes the Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive on two separate dates, Georgetown Visitation’s annual Thanksgiving collection, and preparing for our Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. We’ll be purchasing hundreds of turkeys for family dinners and all of the fixings! So many good people help with this effort – it is truly a team event! We’ll probably deliver another 20,000-30,000 cans and a couple thousand pounds of fresh food and a ton (literally) of turkeys by the end of the year!

Of course, plans are also underway for A CAPITAL EVENING II, our 2nd Annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction at the Capital Hilton of November 20th — just 50 days away! I hope you will visit still another blog post today on the various auction items to date. And, you can purchase tickets for the Gala right here on this site as well! Our Gala Chairs — Jodi Moraru, Greta Kreuz and Susan Reaman –have been working hard as have our Board of Directors and Gala Committee, to bring you another stellar event. There will be music by Cheek to Cheek as well as the Concert Choir of the Connolly School of the Holy Child. And, the wonderful staff of The Capital Hilton has planned another sumptuous meal, fine wine and cocktails, and their legendary impeccable service.

We thank our Diamond Sponsor, GREYSTONE, for their generosity, and our corporate sponsors, The Capital Hilton, EVOKE, EPI Printing, and Caruso Florist for making it all possible.

This is our only major fundraising event of the year and the proceeds fund the Foundation for the coming year, so your generous support is very much needed to continue our mission of serving the poor. Because of the generous support of our sponsors and vendors, and through some pretty expert management, the lion’s share of the proceeds go directly to purchasing food for the poor.

Please plan on joining us November 20th. If you cannot attend, we hope you’ll consider making a donation.

Scripture tells us that “faith without works is dead.” (James 2:17). By helping us serve the “least of these” brothers and sisters of ours in the District, you are demonstrating that faith in God and faith in one another is indeed alive and well in the Nation’s Capital.

God bless you!
