Our 3rd Annual Summer in the City campaign was a great success, collecting more than 77,000 cans of food from 23 churches, 2 schools and a summer service camp program. We also purchased and delivered close to two tons of fresh food this summer, including 1,800 pounds of chicken, bushels of corn on the cob, eggs, milk and many other items. We thank our volunteers on the donating and receiving ends for helping us load and unload this enormous amount of food.

pantry-oneAnd yet, we continue to be challenged with off the charts numbers of families who come to us in need.

So, the work continues this fall with great food drives at Resurrection in Burtonsville, St. Patrick’s in Norbeck and St. Peter’s in Olney. Soon, we’ll have our annual drive at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, the GGCFD Drive at St. Patrick’s and the enormous Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive on December 3rd at Holy Trinity Georgetown. The work continues because the need never stops. If you would like to volunteer, we would love to have you!

And, our course our CAPITAL EVENING III is just one month away! This is our only fundraising event each year and we desperately need these funds to continue our work in 2017. You can reserve your seats at jsmff.org/gala or you can give us a call at 202.827.9997 anytime. If you cannot attend, I am hopeful you will consider a donation.

A great evening has been planned by our three Gala chairs (Jodi Moraru, David Piscola and Patrick Gex) and their great committee. We’ll begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6PM (be sure to pre-pay your valet parking at the reduced rate upon arrival to expedite departure!) where you’ll have the opportunity to bid on some great gifts in time for the holidays. We have hotel stays in Maui, Barbados, San Francisco, New Orleans, San Diego, Orlando and a dozen other destinations! There are fabulous restaurant certificates from The Jefferson, Hay-Adams, Blue Duck Tavern, Teddy & The Bully, and a dozen other great restaurants! There are Capitals, Wizards, Terps and Hoyas tickets! You can take your family of four to an NFL game at the Meadowlands, complete with hotel accommodations for the weekend! There is Baccarat crystal and artwork! And much more!

After the reception and silent auction, we’ll have a sumptuous meal in the Capital Hilton’s Presidential Ballroom with entertainment provided by Radio King Orchestra’s Combo! And dancing! We promise another stellar evening and hope you will join us o n Friday, November 18th at the storied Capital Hilton!

Close to 800 families were helped by your goodness in September and with the holidays and winter season approaching, the challenge will be even more difficult! But we’ll be there, but we need your help!

Thank you for being there for our inner city poor.
