gala-3c

A Capital Evening III was a tremendous success and hundreds of folks were wowed with every detail. As is our custom, the photos here on these pages are a gift to our attendees to memorialize the event!  We highly recommend our official photographer, Jeff Behm (JeffBehm.com) and as you peruse these photos, you’ll see why!

There are so many people to thank, but let us start with our Gala Chairs – Jodi Moraru, David Piscola, and Patrick Gex. They did a fantastic job! Our 3rd Gala was the most highly attended and profitable so far…it was nice to graduate to the elegant Presidential Ballroom! These three leaders of our Foundation provided the energy and enthusiasm that carried the day and we are so grateful.

We especially thank our Diamond sponsor, GREYSTONE, for being the major underwriter of the Gala! Sharon Briskman’s commitment to our mission is second to none! We also thank our Platinum sponsors, Hilton Worldwide and Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament for their generosity.

Our Gold Table Sponsors were a big part of the success as well — EVOKE, Georgie and Patrick Gex, Mairzie and Jay Mulholland, Gardiner Hall Associates, Trenk DiPasquale Della Fera Sodono, GETS Financial, St. Peter’s Parish Olney, and St. John Vianney Parish. And, of course, our table hosts and attendees.

gala-3bThe Capital Hilton did a superb job for the third year and we thank them for not only the clockwork efficiency of the event, but for their generosity and commitment to our mission. Special thanks to the General Manager, David Piscola and the Director of Catering, Titou Phommachanh — as well the Executive Chef, Philip Thompson and the Banquet Manager, Charles Dozier — and Takyka Ireland and her staff at PSAV. The food and spirits were delicious, the Ballroom was beautiful and everyone enjoyed the exceptional service.

We were entertained by the outstanding Radio King Orchestra’s Combo and thank Robin and Rick Gordon for their exceptional performance. Judging from the traffic jam on the dance floor, they were a big hit!

Caruso Florist provided the gorgeous centerpieces and our auction and gala “staff” included ten students from Georgetown Visitation! Many thanks!

Of course, a lot of behind the scenes work went into this Gala before we even got there! For the invitations we thank John Kwiecinski and EPI Printing, Tracy Bloom Schwartz and Creative Parties, and Heidi Kallett and Dandelion Patch for all their good efforts. Nicole Galiatsatos produced our rolling credits in the ballroom, and Kaitlyn Hostetler and Jeannette Tavares from EVOKE masterminded registration and check-out. And we’re always grateful to our webmaster, Rick Wharton — Our Treasurer, Bill Mulholland, for crunching the numbers that ensures we spend as little as possible to generate the best result to serve the poor — and the ever present Rowena Brodin, who masters every task I can’t get anyone else to do.

Of course, our 80 auction donors made the silent auction very exciting. We had a couple items left over that we’ll offer on our Facebook page soon!

gala-3aWhat’s really important is that the goal was reached — to ensure that our Foundation continues it’s important work in 2017 — that our three pantries continue to have the resources they need to feed the 750 working poor families in the District that we serve– that we are able to be foot soldiers every day for the love and generosity exhibited in the Presidential Ballroom Saturday night.

President Kennedy liked to say that it’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness. These people and all who attended indeed lit candles in the darkness of hunger and poverty in our city.

We are grateful.

God love you.
